The ancient Egyptians referred to their land as km.t (‘black land’), the fertile black soil deposited by the Nile River after flooding), and deshret (‘red land’), the barren desert on either side of the Nile.

This project is an attempt to understand the ancient Egyptian worldview through the lens of modern Egypt.
